Brookfield Residence

39 years ago the original timber dwelling on this lushly landscaped Brookfield block was relocated, raised and turned into Bedrooms. This brick pod was then built to house the family’s Living spaces and remained unchanged until the owner’s four sons left home.

Now the interconnected entry, living, dining and kitchen have been sparingly and dramatically refurbished to maximise the volume of each space, playing up the high ceilings and generous views. Windows and doors were replaced to improve the water tightness of the space, which gave a great opportunity to modernise each opening and frame the views in and out, display objects of significance and also redefine the flow of traffic. The new kitchen has similarly redefined how this generous central space is used for preparing intimate meals or facilitating large groups to cluster around as at a bar.

The freshly re-minted home has already risen to the challenge of a wedding reception, the kitchen praised by the caterers for both its functionally and its back saving 950 and 1050mm bench heights.
